Sound of Many Waters

The Sound of Many Waters - an exhibit from talented artists of our Southeast Consortium and Israel Partnership region - will be on display at the Jewish Community Alliance beginning today, Sept. 5. Jacksonville is part of the Southeast Consortium that includes Nashville, Richmond, Charlotte, Pinellas, Fort Myers, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Daytona - and Hadera-Eiron, Israel.

Local artists, Susan Natale and Lola Felden, contributed to this project, which will tour the United States over the coming months. Natale describes her involvement saying, "Identity is hard to come by. It is a complicated balance between projection and perception. For a female artist, this can be particularly challenging. The Sound of Many Waters spoke loudly to me, offering a chance to step forward for the very first time as a Jewish artist. I was honored to be selected."

The Israel Partnership Program (P2G) is an important part of our Federation. The friendships forged over the years as a result of the Living Bridge programs prove to be life-changing for many. Programs include teacher exchanges and summer camp experiences for teens from Israel and Jacksonville.

Everyone is encouraged to stop by the JCA to view The Sound of Many Waters exhibit on display in the Vandroff Art Gallery. The art will be displayed through Oct. 1.

Our new division for Jewish healthcare professionals, Havura HaMarpeh/Society of Healers, will hold its opening event on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m.

Over wine and cheese, we will learn about The Sound of Many Waters from our local artists. Leslie Klein of Nashville, who co-chaired the project, will also join us.

Havura HaMarpeh is for anyone in the healthcare/medical community. Physicians, dentists, psychologists, physical therapists, nurses, medical students and all other professionals are welcome to attend. To RSVP, please call 448-5000 x201 or email emmap@jewishjacksonville.org.

Mark your calendar for the Campaign Kickoff Event, Thursday, Oct. 23, 7-9 p.m., at River Garden.

Guest speaker will be Dr. William Recant, disaster relief expert/assistant executive VP of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

We will also honor our 2014 Federation award recipients: Michael DuBow, Joe P. Safer Community Service Award; Nancy Davis, Ilene Sari Selevan Young Leadership Award; and Daniel Miller, Ilene Sari Selevan Young Leadership Award.

Shabbat Shalom,
